Which College is Right for Me?

Many factors are considered when deciding on a college. Below are a few questions to ask yourself, and then find the answers from schools you are considering. Be sure to visit the colleges you are considering and ask current students their feelings about their school. Even though these questions are answered for you, depending on the college you are interested in, the answers may vary.

How do I Apply for College Admission?

  • Request applications online, and gather information at college fairs.
  • Apply early. Early means October.
  • Know important dates for each school.
  • Complete the application and include parent's signature if you are under age 18.
  • Send your official high school transcript. Ask your counseling office to send this with the application along with your ACT or SAT test scores.
  • Send the application fee or a fee waiver request.

What are colleges looking for in my application?

  • Grade Point Average
  • ACT/SAT test scores
  • Class rank
  • High school academic courses

    What else will the college be looking for in my application?

  • Extracurricular activities
  • Community and volunteer activities
  • Employer recommendations
  • Teacher/counselor recommendations
  • Advanced Placement (AP) test results
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Challenging classes such as Honors classes
  • A strong personal essay or statement.
